• Artifact Examination and Analysis

We can provide detailed visual and scientific analysis of your artifacts in preparation for; subsequent treatment, or to aid curators, collection managers and appraisers in establishing provenance, age or authenticity. We work closely with several firms that can conduct detailed analytical and scientific analysis of your artifacts to establish the nature of materials, pigments, adhesives, coatings or inscriptions.

  • Conservation Assessment - Site-wide or Collections Specific

Experienced qualified staff from Hartmann Conservation will travel to your location to conduct a detailed assessment of your facility, collections, exhibition spaces, collections storage, environment, or individual artifacts. These surveys form the basis for determining needed building, or system improvements that will protect an entire collection or to determine individual conservation treatment priorities. The resulting reports from these surveys can form the basis for establishing short/ long-range goals, and objectives for your collections.

  • Examination Services of Artwork to be Acquired by the Client

Hartmann Conservation offers institutions, museums, or private collectors a quick, but thorough examination service prior to purchase, or acquisition of new artwork. This service can provide both visual and/or analytic testing, which will allow the buyer/client to more fully understand the current condition, past restoration work, or authenticity of the artifact that they are contemplating acquiring. You can use this information to make better-informed decisions about the asking price based on information gleaned through the conservation analysis. We can evaluate the artifact to some extent by looking at photographic images or accompanying limited written documentation/provenance/reports. We can also make arrangements to travel to the artifact’s location to examine it first hand, or have a trusted conservator closer to the piece to do the examination on our behalf. The cost of these services will be dependent upon required labor hours, report writing time, materials, and travel expenses.

  • Consultation

Hartmann Conservation will gladly discuss the conservation needs with you for your personal, institutional or museum collections. You may contact us through our website, by telephone, text or email. We can also travel to your location to review your collection, storage, environmental, or exhibition needs in person.

  • Environmental Monitoring

We will be glad to help our client or institution establish an environmental monitoring program, install or place required devices, and evaluate how the environment in your institution, building or home is affecting your collections.

  • Museum, Storage, and Exhibition Review & Design

We frequently work directly with institutions, or as part of a contracted team (comprised of exhibition & storage designers, fabricators, curators, lighting consultants, and conservators), to design and/or assess collection exhibitions, and storage spaces/facilities.
